Here's what happens when you join Resonance, step by step.
This page describes the Resonance app, the version that schools, workplaces and programs run as a private community. If that's you, you get the download link from the person who runs your group. On your own? You don't need the app. Take the survey on this site and get your report when you finish. (App users will get the report and the new Resonance features too.)
Resonance runs as a private community for your school, class or program. You get the download link from the person running it: your professor, your program or your school.
This site doesn't share download links. Joining through your school's link keeps your community limited to its members.
Get the app, then sign up using your school email address (for example, your @yourschool.edu account). We email you a login link. Click it to sign in. Only verified school addresses can join, which keeps out bots and anyone who isn't in your community.
Login link not working? See troubleshooting below. It's usually a 30-second fix.
The survey is the core of Resonance. It asks how you see and experience the world: what you notice, how you make sense of things, and what matters to you. It's not a personality test, and there are no right answers. The app tells you when you're done.
It's best to finish in one sitting. If your class or program has a deadline, finish before it. Matching runs after the deadline.
Once everyone has joined, the algorithm computes a compatibility score for every pair of people in your community. Then it forms pods of 2 to 7 people so that everyone, including the shyest people, gets strong matches.
When pods are ready, yours appears on your home screen. You see each pod member's profile, including why you matched: how you see the world in similar ways, plus shared interests that make easy conversation starters. A group chat starts automatically, so no one has to send the first message.
The goal of Resonance is to get you off the app. Grab lunch, study together, sit together in lecture or go to an event. The algorithm finds the matches. The friendship part is up to you.
Matching runs once, after your group's sign-up deadline. If you don't finish the survey in time, you can't be included in that round, so don't wait.
If one of your classes uses Resonance, your professor may offer extra credit for completing the survey. Your professor sets the details and the deadline, not Resonance.
This isn't a popularity contest. The algorithm puts every participant in a pod with compatible people, so no one is left out.
Two known problems, and how to fix them.
Your browser is opening the login link from your email instead of the app, so you see a fallback page. To fix it:
Then go back to the email and tap the link again.
If the login email goes to spam, the link in it may not work from there. To fix it:
Check that you typed your school address correctly. Some schools have more than one email format, like @school.edu and @g.school.edu, and either should work. If it still doesn't work, contact the professor or coordinator who invited you. They can contact the Resonance team to fix it.
Still stuck? Contact the professor, TA or coordinator who invited you. They can reach the Resonance team directly and can usually fix things fast.
